happen是不及物動詞,作“發(fā)生”解時,可指偶然的事故,也可指有計劃或無計劃發(fā)生的事。一般以事件、環(huán)境、形勢等作主語,表示“某人發(fā)生某事”時,須以介詞to 引出“某人”。作“碰巧”解時,其后須接動詞不定式構(gòu)成復合謂語,可由人稱代詞或無人稱代詞it作主語。與if連用則可使語氣委婉。
happen也可如be般用于存在句中,其時態(tài)須與其后的主語保持一致。
happen是瞬間動詞,不能與表示一段時間的狀語連用,也不能用于進行體。
