① doubt意為“懷疑，不相信”，即對某事持懷疑態(tài)度，對某種說法的可靠性表示懷疑，即認為可能不是事實。doubt通常含有否定意味，還表示“沒有把握，拿不準”，其賓語可以是名詞、代詞或名詞性從句。用于肯定句時，doubt后的從句用whether 或if 引導，用于否定句或疑問句時，doubt后的從句用 that引導。

I doubt the truth of it. 我認為這不真實。

I doubt her words. 我不相信她的話。

I don't doubt that he will come on time. 我相信他會準時來的。

I doubt whether/if it is true. 我認為這不真實。

② suspect意為“猜疑，猜忌，隱約覺得”，指行為者雖然沒有足夠的證據(jù)，但相信自己的懷疑是對的，猜疑的內(nèi)容可能是事實。suspect的賓語可以是名詞、代詞、不定式復合結(jié)構(gòu)或that從句，但不能是whether或if引導的從句。

He is suspected of telling lies. 別人懷疑他說謊。

She is suspected as an accomplice. 她有同謀的嫌疑。

They suspected him of murder. 他們猜疑他就是兇手。
