consult的基本意思是為了作出一項決定、取得一項解決辦法而進行對話或討論。可以是單向的,即“請教”“咨詢”; 也可以是雙向的,即“商議”“商量”。無論是“咨詢”還是“商量”,雙方地位都是平等的。引申可以表示向書本咨詢,即“翻閱”“查考”資料,也可以表示向自己咨詢,即“考慮”“顧及”。
consult可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。作“請教”解時多接人作賓語; 作“翻閱”解時常接書、詞典、地圖等作賓語; 作“考慮”解時其賓語多為抽象名詞。表示“與…商量”可接介詞with; 表示請教或商議的一般內(nèi)容可接介詞about,重大或特殊內(nèi)容則接介詞on; 而接介詞for時則表示“為…當顧問”。
consult極少用于被動結構。
